A beautifully-crafted version of the Oda Nobunaga story. (I HIGHLY recommend watching the superb series, Hyouge Mono, before this, if you can; it covers the same time period very differently, in great detail.)
A gutsy combination (think Ikenaga Yasunari style) of terrific figure drawing, flat areas of 'fabric', and CG, each episode without opening theme and with only a natsukashii end montage. This daring series brings Japanese history to life.
If you need to nitpick, the CG movements, especially the blinking, are awkward. Get over it (unless you lack the imagination to do so), and appreciate the Sharaku-esque faces.
The genuinely Japanese features of the characters are a welcome change from the creeping caucasoidation in anime. The characters look as though they’re drawn from real people. Their plausibility helps drive the plot.
A message to the past, from the future. A message to the present from the past. Comforting, hopeful, and inspiring.
