Anime: R-15 4y6r6a

R-15 is about an aspiring young writer named Taketo, who happens to be a genius at writing eroge, and his daily life at Inspiration Academy, a school for geniuses. The premise of the school aside, this is supposed to be a ecchi harem/romance with light comedy. However, nothing is terribly funny, the harem is only partial, and (if you're watching the TV version) there is minimal ecchi. In the end you get a show with an uneven pacing, lackluster development, and wasted potential.

Animation:
If you're watching the TV-released version of this be aware that there aren't god rays. Instead, they just block off half the screen with white. Due to the ecchi nature of the subject material, you're going to get a LOT of these covered screens, which eventually becomes both annoying and confusing (at times the main character reacts to something that is whited out, so you have no idea what it was that he saw).

The overly-aggressive censoring aside, the animation is fairly typical. The colors are slightly washed and backgrounds are fairly plain. Character models are decent as are the effects. As for ecchi aspects, you still get "boing boing" but all accidental grabs, and accidental angles are completely covered. The only sign of ecchi you're going to get is the main character's bloody noses.

Sound:
This series utilizes the entire female cast in the OP and ED, the latter of which is slightly more catchy due to the reuse in the BGM, though both are average pieces at best. Speaking of the BGM, the pieces are very standard fare except for a clarinet piece that is played at least a dozen times throughout the series. This piece stands out not because it's really good but just because it's so overused.

There are quite a few new VAs in this show so expect VA quality to vary significantly. Overall the voices were fine but nothing outstanding.

Story:
R-15 is somewhat of a slice of life that, almost randomly, switches to a final arc pitting two girls against each other for Taketo while the school hosts an equally random genius competition. You really never get a sense of true direction in the series and you still won't after it finishes.

The first half of the series involves Taketo, part of the newspaper, getting assigned to "interview" different girls. He ends up helping them solve their problems (which are sometimes improbable and ill-explained), which I guess sort of makes up the "harem" part of the series. However, in reality it's just two girls that end up going after his heart (I'm still working on understanding why they are).

All in all, the storyline failed to sell me the premise and could have been executed much better.

Character:
This is a mixed category. Some of the characters were very well developed (Utae) while others are still complete mysteries, and I wonder why they even bothered to introduce them (sure you can use them for fan service- er except that you covered up all the fan service...).

You have your now traditional mix of clumsy, tsundere, and hard working girls. Their incredible talents aside, the characters are hard to relate to due to the story sequencing, sort of a fire and forget per episode.

There are one or two episodes where they do use a few elements of romance but there isn't anything really serious, nor is there really any conclusion to the relationships.

So how to sum it up, neither Taketo nor any of the girls other than Utae are very believable. Characters are distinct but never really feel relevant.

Value:
While there are a few good moments in this, it isn't worth going through all the white screens. And while the premise lends itself well to some hilarious moments, the execution is just too flawed to fully utilize it. If you want ecchi, it's not really here. If you want story, it's pretty butchered. If you want romance, you won't find any conclusion. So yeah as e3d_ALiVE recommends, it starts fine but then just keeps going downhill.
