Plastic Little basically comes down to two things: topless anime babes, and heaps of action. Urushihara follows his usual style with this movie, although it is arguably the best of his works. The story revolves around a young girl named Tita who is captain of a submersible ship called the "Cha Cha Maru". Tita runs into Elysse, who is apparently wanted by the military, and scurries her off to safety. From there, Tita, Elysse, and the crew of the Cha Cha Maru defeat an evil villian with the largest shoulder pads in the universe, and save the entire planet. Plastic Little is rather short on plot, but (in my opinion) makes up for this with character design/interaction and visual style. The animation in this movie is exceptionally well done for its time: very bright, clean, and smooth. In contrast however, there really isn't anything unique or endearing about the music, or sound effects in this movie, but in all honesty the audio tracks are not the reason one watches Plastic Little. The characters are designed quite well, both visually and personality-wise, and even though this OVA only lasts around 47 minutes, the story manages to fill us in on parts of the group dynamic aboard the "Cha Cha Maru", as well as providing a good deal of fan service, explosions, humor, and a satisfying conclusion. Probably not the best choice to introduce your date to the wide, wide world of anime, but otherwise an entertaining film, with decent re-watch value.
